Hope you are all well surviving the heat of the summer. Those who are traveling have a pleasant and bring in some interesting stories and pictures!
This Saturday August 7, 2010 we will go hike on Dobongsan starting from Banghak-dong along a gentle slope covered with trees protecting us from the hot sun and shower of rain. This trail is relatively easy yet less familiar to most hikers.
Dobongsan is one of the most favored mountains in Seoul. It is a part of Bukhansan National Park and lies between Bukhansan and Sapaesan. The name Dobong means "Peak of the Path", and the mountain was regarded as a spiritual place, so there are many temples, including Cheonchuksa, Wontongsa, and Mangwolsa.
How to get there: Line 1, Dobong Station. (stn. 115)
Where we meet: Just inside Dobong Station near Exit 2 also called South or Nambu exit. (Note that this is not Dobongsan Station, but one stop before it if you are coming from Seoul.)
When: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010
What we will do: Hike on Dobongsan, walk along a gentle ridge, go down a cool valley, and have a meal afterwards.
Duration: This hike will take about 4 hours.
Cost: Each person will pay for their own meal. (W10,000 - W20,000)
If you plan to attend, please e-mail sihclub@gmail.com by 5 p.m. Friday so we have an idea of how many people will participate.
Contact Hank Chay at 010-8423-0123 in case you are considerably delayed on Saturday. Please wear proper hiking footwear and also bring an umbrella or raincoat for the possible change of the weather these days.
Cancellation policy: We do not cancel our hikes due to inclement weather. Coordinators of the hikes will go to the meeting place and try to arrange an alternative activity (like a safer walk) if hiking is not possible. You are, of course, not obligated to follow the changed schedule.
Let's keep our fingers crossed for good weather!
Stay cool!
Thank you for your interest,
