This Saturday, July 24th, we are going on a day trip to cool stream at the valley in Gapyeong. Cool water is the best escape from hot summer days. So this Saturday(August 15) we'll walk along the cool dale with good stream. If you feel bore of walking, you can jump into a
swimming hole at any time. We'll go to Gapyeong by train from Seongbuk station line 1
and take a taxi from Gapeong station to Gyeongbanri. Then we'll walk along the valley with lots of puddles, a few falls and some tiny ponds. This trail is about 5 kilometers long and has a mild inclining, not steep at all. The name of Gyeongban means mirror ground, so you can imagine a flat huge stone like a mirror. The trains starts at 9:50 from Seongbook station but the seats aren't available so we have have to go there standing at a alley. The hike will take about 5 hours, including rest and lunch time. If we want to walk more, we can hike up the mountain trail covering additonal 7 kilometers.
How to get there: Line 1, Seongbuk Station
Where to meet: Just inside Seongbuk Station near ticket barrier
When: 9:40 am, Saturday, July 24th, 2010
What we will do: Take a train(not subway) to Gapyeong station and approach the entrance of valley by taxi. Then we will walk along the stream in the mountain and take a rest in or by the stream. Prepare another wear and bring your own lunch.
Cost: Each person will pay for their traffic. (4,000 won for train each way, 5,000 won for taxi each way) There might be only standing room because all the seats were reserved. It means that you can get on the train with standee ticket and stand about an hour in the train. Because local bus doesn't go often, we will take a taxi to the valley.
* If you plan to attend, please RSVP to this mail so we can have an idea of how many people would come. Please be on time,
but if you are running considerably late (like over 15 minutes), please call or text Jeong-ho Park at 016-246-9261.
* New comers are requested to provide us with your basic contact information (such as work/cell phone numbers, working place, nationality, etc.) beforehand in the event of emergency.
* We recommend that you:
--wear proper hiking shoes
--pack the stuff in a plastic (ziploc) bag for a range of possible weather conditions--raincoat, waterproof hiking jacket, extra pair of
socks, T-shirt, etc.
--bring some light snacks (like sandwiches and fruits) for your lunch and a bottle of mineral water to drink during your hike.
* Cancellation policy: We do not cancel hikes due to inclement weather. Coordinators of the hikes will go to the meeting place and try to arrange an alternative activity (likely going on a safer walk) if the majority of the group agrees that hiking is not possible. You are, of course, not obligated to follow the changed schedule.
Thank you for your interest^_^
