This Saturday, Jan. 29, the Seoul International Hikers' Club will go on its first hike on a high mountain in 2011,
a day trip to Deogyusan National Park in Muju, North Jeolla Province.
We will meet just outside Exit 1 of Jamsil Stadium Station (subway line 2) by 8:25 AM and leave Seoul exactly at 8:30 AM.
Muju is a three-hours drive from Seoul on the Seoul-Busan Expressway, below Daejeon and Geumsan (the ginseng town); therefore, we expect to arrive there around 11:30 AM and start hiking before 11 AM, finishing around 4 PM, and then head back to Seoul. We'll be back to Seoul until 8 PM. The hike is said to take about five hours, but we will take short breaks along the way. This mountain has a well established cable car or sky lift up to at the 1,500 meter height.
Deogyusan is referred to as a warm motherly mountain where kindess and virtue (deok) is abundant and generous (yu); Its two main peaks also have beautiful names: Hyangjeokbong (1,614 meters) means the peak where fragrance remains, and Seolcheonbong, the peak of snow creek.
It is one of the most popular destinations in Korea for hikers to see snow-covered trees (aka snow flowers or nun kkok) and mountain tops in winter. Just click the following site, you can see some wondeful pictures of the mountain. http://mrsanahi.blog.me/60070924341 http://blog.ohmynews.com/cornerstone/169668
